DEI Statement

When you come to Rec Room, you’re entering a space where all are welcome.

We accept and respect every member & guest regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sex, sexual orientation, disability, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, age, political affiliation, or religion.

Which also means that…

… there is zero tolerance for hate speech and/or harassment. These include - but are not limited to - statements that are racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist or transphobic. Microaggressions, tone policing, name calling and bullying are also not permitted, nor are sexual comments, images, or unwanted attention.

…we are allies towards our marginalized members and look out for each other. This is an intersectional space and we are aware that everyone’s experiences are not the same. Please don’t assume that anyone else has the same education, language, lifestyle, communication methods, abilities, privileges, etc. as you do.

…we have ways to report any concerning behavior. Access the survey here and share anything you’ve seen, heard, or experienced directly with the Rec Room’s General Manager - anonymously or otherwise. The responses go directly to Michelle’s email and will be given immediate priority with direct follow-up.

…anyone asked to stop any harassing behavior must comply with our request(s) immediately. We will review any situation that is brought to our attention and will take action as we see fit. This could include but isn’t limited to issuing a warning, facilitating an apology, removing the person from the space, canceling a membership, bringing in security, etc.

…all members and guests will agree to these terms when they make a Rec Room purchase. This means that anyone who enters the space will be aware of our policies and is welcome to leave if it doesn’t align with their values or expected behavior.

Our Commitments

  • We commit to offering need-based scholarships to those from marginalized communities depending on what we raise in our scholarship fund.

  • We commit to donating 1% of our profits to different Montclair organizations each month.

  • We commit to sourcing at least 30% of our products + partnerships to be from local Montclair businesses with an owner from a marginalized community.

  • We commit to being a welcome space for our employees to show up as their full selves, and will actively seek BIPOC candidates and make sure they make up at least half of our interviewees.

  • We commit to being an actively anti-racist company, which includes - but is not limited to - speaking out against hate, continuing our education on an ongoing basis, and updating our agreements and policies as needed.

  • We encourage you to speak up, hold us accountable, offer feedback, give a referral or recommendation and/or engage us in difficult conversations. This can be done through an email, our (anonymous) survey, our app, or simply by approaching any staff member you see at Rec Room. Once something is brought to our attention it will be given the utmost priority.
