Member Spotlight: Heather Muskowski Miller

If you've ever worked at RecRoom and noticed someone sketching something that looks like it belongs on a runway, there's a good chance it was our member Heather Muskowski Miller.

A Montclair-based freelance womenswear designer, Heather helps brands bring their vision to life, from the first spark of a concept all the way to a finished collection. She's the kind of member who makes RecRoom feel like exactly what it's meant to be: a place where talented, creative people come to do their best work, find their people, and yes, enjoy a free cup of coffee.

We sat down with Heather to learn a little more about her work, her life in Montclair, and what keeps her coming back. Here's what she had to say.

Town you live in: Montclair, NJ

What you do for work: I'm a freelance womenswear designer. I help brands design and develop complete collections, key item pieces, or support in areas such as color and concept, flat sketching, or tech pack creation.

Fave local spring thing (food, drink, activity, etc.): So many things! Bike Bus. Outdoor dinner/drinks at Egan's. Art festival at Brookdale Park.

Connection you're looking to make: I'm open to new opportunities for work, and I'd love to connect with fellow designers and trade stories.

Fave part of being a RecRoom member: Getting out of my house! I wfh so it's nice to be around people. Free coffee, wifi, vending machine, happy hour, what more do you need?

New thing you're learning, or want to learn: How to use AI to turn my flat design sketches into photo-realistic garment images before a sample is made... I'm not a fan of AI but falling behind does not help.

Favorite piece you designed: That's a tough one! So many tops, dresses, jackets... hard to land on a favorite. There was a sheer organza trench coat with an oversized collar that I really loved.
