The Simple Mid-Year Review You’ll Actually Do
Last night, we hosted A Gentle Mid-Year Plan & Review at Lackawanna Station, and my heart is still so full. It was reflective, productive and fun. There were big a-ha’s and small celebrations. We shared challenges, resources and laughs - and left with structures, ideas, and multiple ways to support ourselves through the end of the year.
And today, I want you to have that experience, too - wherever you are.
Whether you’re reading this from your bed, your desk, the passenger seat on a summer road trip, or under a beach umbrella, I want to hand you the same questions we used last night - because I really believe in them. They’ve been part of my personal and professional rhythm for over a decade, and they’ve helped me steer away from what’s just “habit” or “urgent” and move towards what actually matters.
So take an hour (yes, just one!) to gently reflect, check in, and reset. It’ll help you clarify what to ask for, what to reject, what to pursue, and what to accept as you move through the rest of the year.
Before You Begin:
Set your space. Blanket? Candle? Playlist? Pull a tarot card if that’s your thing. Make it cozy if you can - and if you can’t, grab your headphones and put on your fave chill playlist. Here’s one of my faves.
Go on Do Not Disturb. This is your time.
Keep it simple. No need to write essays. Bullet points and half-thoughts are perfect. Don’t overthink - your first instinct is usually the right answer.
Write by hand if you can. It really connects you to yourself.
Set a timer for an hour. It’s all you’ll need.
Be gentle with yourself. This is a compassionate check-in, not a productivity interrogation.
Skim your calendar from January until today. It’ll help you jog your memory on what happened this year. And when you’re ready, answer the questions below…
✨ MID-YEAR REVIEW
1. What happened in your personal life?
(Think: relationships, mental health, hobbies, home stuff…)
2. What about your professional life?
(What did/didn’t happen that felt important?)
3. How have you been feeling this year?
(Emotionally, energetically, physically...)
4. What do you wanna give yourself a high-five for?
(Big wins, small wins, anything that made you proud.)
5. What’s felt like your biggest obstacle - and why?
(And if it’s still unresolved, what are you willing to do - or not do - about it?)
6. What were your main goals this year?
(Why did you hit them… or not?)
7. What lessons have you learned?
(Beliefs busted, unexpected outcomes, a-ha moments...)
8. Where have you spent your time?
(And how do you feel about that?)
9. Rate your year so far from 1–10.
(Explain your rating.)
🔮 MID-YEAR PLAN
1. What will you STOP doing for the rest of 2025?
(What hasn’t been working?)
2. What will you START doing?
(What are you ready to try, explore, or prioritize?)
3. What will you KEEP doing?
(What’s working and feeling good?)
4. Set 1–3 focus points or goals for the rest of the year.
(But first, think about the rest of the year and what’s ahead -the holidays, school starting, how you usually feel in the fall/winter, anything happening at work or with your family, trips you’re taking, etc.)
5. If you were your own best friend, what would you say to boost you up for the rest of the year?
(Write the pep talk you most need.)
6. What structures can support you moving forward?
(Think: calendar alerts, check-ins, boundaries, routines, accountabilibuddies, coworking memberships…)
✅ NOW WHAT?
You have planned, you have reviewed, you have been gentle and kind. And now you have some homework:
Implement those structures ASAP.
Send that text request. Create that recurring calendar event. Set up “sleep mode” to start an hour earlier. Whatever you wrote down that can possibly help you, do it now - otherwise we both know it’s never gonna happen.
However you choose to check in with yourself, I hope you remember: You don’t have to wait until January to begin again.
Mid-year is a powerful portal. Walk through it with kindness.
And no pressure, but a hint-hint-nudge-nudge that you can use these questions to plan & reflect on the week, month, quarter and/or year.
